ICarly

iCarly is a Nickelodeon TV show about 13 year old Carly Shay (Miranda Cosgrove) hosting her own webshow with her best friends Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) and Freddie Benson (Nathan Kress). iCarly was born when Carly took blame for something Sam did, and got funny comments on what she & Sam were doing a talent show search, and started iCarly. iCarly ended on Friday, November 23rd. The Series Finale was called iGoodbye. Carly moved with her dad in Italy and iCarly took a break. It is unknown will they continue with the web show.

Basic Information

Every episode starts with a lowercase "i". The series premiered on September 8, 2007 and is currently aired on Nickelodeon. It first aired on YTV (TV channel) a month later on October 8, 2007, and now concurrently airs on Teennick. The show first aired on Nickelodeon UK in Easter 2008. It aired Nickelodeon Australia in May 2008.

Dan Schneider, the producer, also created the shows All That, Kenan and Kel, Zoey 101, Drake and Josh, The Amanda Show, and Victorious.

The series stars Miranda Cosgrove as title character Carly Shay in this show, Carly creates an Internet show, called iCarly, with her best friends, Sam (Jennette McCurdy) , Freddie (Nathan Kress), and brother Spencer (Jerry Trainor).

When executive producer, Dan Schneider was filming his previous show Zoey 101 he came up with the idea for iCarly. With its name with his friend and producer of The Big Bang Theory, Steve Molaro. Originally Dan wanted make a new TV series starring Miranda Cosgrove, the original idea was that she play a "normal" girl who, in a twist of fate, gets cast to star in her favorite TV show "Starstruck". The pilot was written (and turned in to Nickelodeon), which was about Carly, a regular girl who gets cast to star in her favorite TV show. However, things started to take a turn. During a casual meeting in his den with his wife and his friend Steve, Dan decided that it would be much better if Carly had her own show. A show she could run herself, her own way, and do whatever she wanted to do witch would be come a web show. In November, 2006 Dan threw out his Starstruck script and during December her wrote a brand new pilot called "iCarly". The pilot was shot in January, 2007. However he says the title iCarly wasn't the show's original title. Schneider mentioned to a fan, "...we were trying to think of a good title for my new series about kids who start their own web show.

At that point, in my pilot script, the lead girl's name was "Sam" and we tried to get the URL iSam, but it was taken. So, I tried a bunch of other girls' names. I actually bought iJosie (dot com), thinking I might name the lead character Josie, but then I decided I didn't like it.

Then I tried iCarly, and I got it. I loved that name for the lead character, so I changed the names of the two lead girls from Sam and Kira to Carly and Sam. (I still have my original script where it's Sam, Kira, and Freddie.)

So, back in 2007, if someone hadn't already owned the URL iSam.com, then iCarly would likely have been called iSam.

iCarly is also the first show to have the audience send video clips to the official website.

The show contains many parodies and sometimes Pop culture references to things the show's creators like a lot. Despite airing on a kids network, it also contains some mature humor.

iCarly has not aired in the US on a weekly basis since 2011. In Canada, between Nickelodeon Canada and YTV, episodes of iCarly continue to air about six times per day from Monday to Friday and two or three times per day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Unfortunately, iCarly has experienced a decline in ratings since late 2011. This is within pattern with Nickelodeon's fall in ratings since the 4th quarter of 2011. This has also not been helped by the recent dispute between Viacom (the corporation who own Nickelodeon) and DirecTV. On June 9th 2012, iCarly had the lowest viewership of a premiere ever, with only 2.362 million viewers.

On May 17, 2012, it was announced that the show's current season is the last season for iCarly and a series finale event will air in November 2012. The series finale event aired on November 23, 2012.

Plot

When Carly and her sassy best friend Sam act funny while conducting a school talent show audition, tech-savvy Freddie tapes it and posts it online without telling them. After seeing the girls' strong chemistry and banter, the online audience clamors for more and the iCarly webcast is born. While grappling with typical issues of adolescence, Carly, Sam, and Freddie find out that they have also become online celebrities as their show – which features talent contests, recipes, problem-solving, and random dancing – garners international accolades.

Carly lives in Seattle, Washington with her 26-year-old brother and guardian Spencer and produces the show in a makeshift third-floor studio loft in their apartment. Their mother has never been seen or mentioned, but their father, Steven Shay, is a U.S. Air Force officer temporarily stationed on a submarine, and is often mentioned but has never been seen in the show in person.

Exterior shots of the Shays' apartment building, Bushwell Plaza, are digitally altered images of the Eastern Columbia Building in Los Angeles.
